August, 2009 PC United Kingdom Wow.. just been reading the news - I should learn to stop doing that because it just gets my blood boiling.. Petrol Up Again It's going up 2.3p (inc VAT @ 15%) from tonight. That means the average price for fuel will be around the £1.07 per litre mark... It wasn't so long ago that lorry and car drivers blockaded all the refineries and ports because petrol went over the £1 mark! What's happening now I hear you ask? Sod All! This country just takes and takes whatever the NuLabour party dishes out. No grumbles, no annoyance... nothing. We should be like the French. When the Goverment in France do something unpopular the have riots on their hands. They have the people saying 'Non!' What do we have in this country? People just going 'ok... suppose that's just the way it is'... It's catastrophic so it is! We shouldn't put up with all of the new stupid laws (over 8000 amendments and new laws have come into force since NuLab got in) The majority of those decisions have been put in place without the government consulting their employers... US... Hehe! - That's better, needed to have a rant.. HoHum, KbJ August, 2009 Gary McKinnon Pt. II I was reading this morning again in the press about all of the support for Gary McKinnon from actresses, politicians, musicians, models and just about every other corner of society except for..... wait for it!.... other computer geeks! ![]() I was reading about the Marillion keyboard player Mark Kelly putting a petition up on the bands' website and how it angered lots of U.S of A(rse) fans... Why should they get angered? Did Gary fly the planes into the World Trade Centre buildings? Did Gary blow up the London tube stations? Did Gary start the illegal war in Iraq? Did Gary terrorize you little children? - Answer? NO. The great American public have no right getting bent out of shape because as far as extradition laws go, the U.K and it's citizens get shafted everytime. The Americans need 'probable cause' for extradition of one of their citizens but in return only need 'reasonable suspicion' for extradition of a U.K citizen. Where's the fairness there? There isn't any. I think that this country we live in used to have more balls than this. A country where our grandfathers fought two terrible wars on a cup of hot tea and a few soggy biscuits. If we as a nation had half the backbone those men had we would fight this extradition and simply tell the U.S of A(rse) bugger off! Or better still, if their looking for hackers, maybe a call to HACK THE PLANET or at least HACK THE U.S.A should be shouted out around the U.K and the rest of the world... see how many people the U.S can extradite then... We live in a society that shouldn't need these types of rallying calls but it's about time that the people in this country stopped being so complacent and realised that we are supposed to be living in a democratic society where the Government are supposed to be scared of the people, not the other way around. It's time that this country's goverment started to listen to it's people, after all it's us that pays their wages and keeps them in jobs. Great Britain eh? Where's the 'Great' in it now when they let people like Gary be extradited for being curious. Sheesh HoHum.. August, 2009 Gary McKinnon So... I was reading about Gary's latest rejection from the court system in the UK of extradition to the good ole U S of A... I must admit to not understanding a few things:
The U.S is great at defining fundamentalists.. religious fanaticals that are hell bent on dominating and taking over the world using terrorism as a means to an end... WELL... read bible bashing U.S starting wars as a means of controlling wealth (and oil) taking over the world using said war in order to kill terrorism (but that war just being a more righteous form of terrorism, but no less illegal!) in order to dominate the world and set it U.S style 'free'. Just another bigger terrorist beating up the smaller terrorist in my view.. Suppose this post will get me on Gordon Brown's 'list of people to watch' list... Mind you, I'm not that worried. Oh, and if you need a picture of me Mr. Brown, just check out all the CCTV camera's you've allowed to interfere with our privacy in the name of security, I'm sure my picture will appear 700 times on some of those.. Bollocks to this country.. and the U.S for being so arrogant. HoHum.. May, 2008 Things that annoy me Pt.2Damn insurance companies!!
I managed to spill some diet coke onto my ageing MacBook the other day and it went BANG! I phoned the home insurance people the next day and put in a claim to have it repaired/replaced under my contents insurance and a right posh bird phoned me back called 'michelle' (name NOT changed to protect the innocent!!)
She then:
2 Days into the future.... I get a call from Chris at AXA and I call him back.. He wants to put my claim through and apologies for the way I've been treated... I was on the phone about 25 minutes and it was all sorted.. new laptop on the way shortly.. I HATE insurance companies... they shaft you left right and centre and then renage on their obligations when you have to make a claim.. HoHum.. KbJ. May, 2008 Another New Car!It's been a while since I updated my blog, so what's been happening....
Not a lot, started a web design comany and am making a decent amount of money out of it but it's long hours (since I have a full time job as an IT Manager).. I need to get out more..
I've finally gotten used to being single, but now I'm beginning to think I should find that 'special someone' again... HoHum...
I bought another new car.. A new Mazda 2.5 V6 SL.. I fancied something with a bit of luxury so I bought the top end model with bluetooth, leather, etc.. and while it's not as insane to drive as the RX-8 or the Mazda 6/3 MPS's that I've had it still kicks you in the ass when you put the foot to the floor.. Hehe! Just waiting for that new RX-8 that's supposed to be coming along with 2x1.5l chambers (a 3 litre RX-8!! hehe!) - apparently the stock car has 450 BHP!!!
Now that I want!!!! and ONLY £30k!!
Going out for a night out on friday and I'm going to have a facefull.. just in the mood for it at the moment because I've been being soooo boring lately..

KbJ. March, 2008 Council Taxes and Council Services
You know what.. in this day and age there is a big emphasis on getting what we pay for in this life. More so I think than in years gone by. We live in a culture where we demand more for our hard earned cash and expect sellers to go that extra mile just to please us - and I think that this is a good thing - the only way to make an economy thrive is to be meaner with our money and get the most out of it.. But.... Council Tax. Have you noticed that as council tax increases, the service that we get decreases? Take a look at the like of items below and tell me that I'm imagining it all..
So.... Basically, we sort our own rubbish, take it out for them, recycle things they won't take away, have to deal with 10 different coloured bins that make our gardens look unsightly, allow them to charge us for things that the council tax doesn't include and let them only pick up our rubbish when the bin(s) are overflowing only to be told that they won't lift them BECAUSE THEY ARE OVERFLOWING... Sheesh.... All this to lower emissions and our carbon footprint... BUT WAIT! I've got an idea for the Government of this country! Why not put a tax on breathing air? We all breathe in air and breathe out carbon dioxide! Surely we should get taxed for that emission too?! And what about farting?? that's got Methane and Sulphur Dioxide in it!! This country has gone to hell in a handbasket and its about time that everyone stood up and shouted ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Don't get me started on fuel prices... HoHum.... KbJ November, 2007 Well.. I'm a 5.. what are you?Just did this personality test.. hmmm.. sounds about right which is a bit scary!
August, 2007 Things that annoy me Pt.1Things that annoy me... the list is longer than a spotty 16 year old's tongue at the Playboy Mansion.. But for today... Indian Call Centres A few points that I've noticed about them just recently..
Now I'm in no way racist at all, but since we pay permium prices for services in the UK, I have to wonder to myself why the hell we can't at least get customer service in the UK instead of Outer Mongolia or India or the Caymen Isles... I pay for a service, I should get good service. On the flip side of this is a company I can't praise highly enough for their service.. Dell Computers.. If you log a support call you go straight through to an operator who takes your asset tag number and passes you onto a technical call centre in Glasgow!! I always get someone called Dave or John or Andy! And they speak a language that I understand!! Right everyone, I think the time has come for us to vote with our wallets and say 'NO MORE NON UK CALL CENTRES!!' HoHum, KbJ Girlfriends Pt. IIIWell... that's another girlie bit the dust. I think that i'm just gonna remain single for a while and have time for me.. I'm sick to the back teeth of being nice to someone, go out of my way to spend time and money on them and then have them do the dirty on me. Ahhh.. never mind, water under the bridge as they say! On a good note, I bought myself a new car the other week. I was on the way to Perth and had a blowout in the Mazda 6 MPS that I had, limped back to the dealer with that stupid replacement yellow wheel that you get instead of a proper alloy spare, only to be told that I needed 4 new tyres!! A total cost of £882 and change!!! Bugger that I thought! So I bought a new car instead! Hehe! I got myself the Mazda 3 MPS - a hot hatch with a 2.3 DISI Turbo that churns almost 300BHP into the front wheels... it's truly insane to drive! I'm having a boys holiday at the end of August and we're heading off to Prague for some fun in the sun... Should be interesting. I haven't been there for a long time, last time being after Italy in 2001. I'm looking forward to seeing the sights and having a few drunken nights! Well I guess I'd better get back to work - even though I can't be bothered today..
HoHum, KbJ July, 2007 Girlfriends Pt. IIMe again.. I was just beginning to think that things were back on track with my girlfriend.. looks like i was sadly mistaken again.. I don't know if it's just me that makes women think 'oh, i'm onto a good thing here, i'm gonna just fleece him and then treat him like sh*t' I'm really beginning to think that i need to stop being so nice and be a bit of a bast*rd for a change.. it's not in my nature at all, but i'm getting sick of being made a fool of.. Maybe it is time for a change.. and i know that i've said this before, but maybe a completely new job in a different place would be just what i need to pep things up.. I'm sick of everything at the moment.. maybe i should start a 40 a day habit again.. HoHum.. KbJ June, 2007 Girlfriends..Well.. what can I say.. I've had my run of girlfriends in the last while - and I must say this:
Is it just me or do single, 30 something women just not know what they want out of life?!!
I dunno... I'm right annoyed with the world in general. There has to be something better than this!
And the last question that popped into my mind...
Why do all women seem to like men that treat them badly? Why do nice guys always come last?
Christ sake..
HoHum..
KbJ January, 2007 My life.. getting better?Well, it's been a while since I stuck anything up in my spacce here on MSN, but to be honest I've been a pretty miserable git these last few entries. Since then, what's happened I hear you all ask.. Well.. I was past up for promotion for the second time in two years at work which sucked worse than a newborn in a breast clinic.. (pardon the humour, not my strong point at the minute!!) I pretty much am fed up with working where I do, and am really considering a new career (same area, different employer) because I'm feeling more stagnant than a tramps vest in the middle of the summer.. I started my own company with a friend, which has had it's swings and roundabouts, but seems to be back on track (hopefully - time will tell) and I still want to be able to give up working for someone else altogether and work for myself (the only way to be truly financially independent!) Apart from that, life in general is ok. I'm not doing 70ish hour weeks anymore. Getting more sleep (which is always a good move, believe me!) and I'm thinking seriously about selling my house and buying a new one. HoHum... Kbj October, 2006 Restless Pt.1Dunno what's up with me at the moment..
I used to enjoy programming computers, IT in general really.. but these days... I dunno..
I have been thinking more and more abot a change of job. I've been in this one for 16 years now and the content of the job has changed so much over the last 5 or so.. Now it's nothing but meetings and more meetings with no real amount of project work ever really started. Those that do get started tend to fall by the wayside to be replaced with ever more useless projects waiting in the wings..
Whatever happened to finishing something that you start..
I've just ordered myself a new MacBook Pro Core Duo with everything added - at least that'll give me something to play with over the weekend - something to put a smile on my (what feels like) dull face...
Christ! I'm really pissed off with things at the moment..
Never mind!
HoHum..
Kbj April, 2006 Quitting the dreaded weed... Pt.2Well,
It's been over a week now.. and the cravings are just as bad sometimes as they were at the start of this attempt to give up smoking... I dunno, my mood seems to be a lot calmer now, but I sometimes feel a bit irrational and don't deal with stress the way that I normally do..
Very strange thing smoking. You don't realise just how much your body craves (and depends on) it. I have heard said that nicotine is more addictive than heroin. I don't think that I believe that, but I'm sure that I've heard that quoted somewhere (more than once).
If that's the case then I really feel for those addicted to heroin.. jeez..
I've given in a few times - and don't feel proud about it, but I must admit it's getting much easier to say no to myself when the cravings set in. Whereas before I would just get irritated (mostly at myself) I now just get mildly annoyed. A start!!
Anyhow I'll away and have another cup of black coffee - that seems to help, but I can see me getting addicted to that now...
Jeez... if it's not one thing it's another..
HoHum. March, 2006 Quitting the dreaded weed... Pt.1Jeez...
What a drag (I wish I could have a drag.. just one...) I quit smoking yesterday. I thought 'I'll be okay. A few days of feeling like a cig will pass easily.'
How wroing could I be..
I'm sweating and restless, feeling a bit dizzy and could absoloutley bite someone's arm off just to get at a cig right now.
This is bloody crap. Crappier than an overflowing septic tank...
'You'll feel fine in a few days' everyone keeps telling me. 'Don't worry, the cravings will subside!' they say.
WHEN!! I ask.
Jeezus.. It's only been about 20 hours since I stopped and already I'm having a really bad day.
I'll try and go have some lunch. See if that improves my irritability some...
HoHum.. March, 2006 Bored with work.. Pt. IJeesus.. I'm bored with this work thing... You gotta work for 40 years to get a pension of £100 or so when you retire.. Hehe! Thank god for occupational pensions!! I'm gonna be well orf!
Just ranting today... been at a meeting this morning.. nothing unusual about that as it seems that my life as an IT Manager seems to consist of nothing but meetings these days (and the dreaded paperwork that goes along with it). Never mind, it pays the bills.. and lets me buy nice cars..
Just recently dug out some old Texas CD's (listening to Southside atm which is astounding!!) Forgotten just how good they are (and how Sharlene is getting fitter as she gets older!!)
Anyhow... better get back to writing code..
HoHum..

March, 2006 NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHYou thought that Hot or Not was a great (super addictive) website?? - Did you?? eh??
Well there's a new kid on the block!
This site lets people upload 'dilemmas' and then the rest of us can read their problems and vote on the soloution!!
It's TOTALLY addictive - you GOTTA check this site out!!
Hohum... February, 2006 A New Car Has Arrived!!WOA!!
Picked up my Mazda 6 MPS yesterday - then immediately had to drive in 5 minutes back up the road and work the rest of the day... bugger...
Still, got a chance to give it a run last night... and.... WHAT A CAR!! 0-60 in 6s with about 290BHP and a top speed of 150m/h ... all in a four door package that looks awesome!! Hehe! mucho niceo (as they say in dodgy spanish movies)
It's got everything... SAT NAV, leather, cruise control, 4WD with computer controlled active Diffs.. 7 Speaker BOSE sound system (with sub woofer) - all as standard... for less than £24k... WHY DID I EVER CONSIDER BUYING AN RX-8?? Ah!, Yes, It was the fun involved throwing it around the corners and almost killing myself (and the car, twice!!)
Anyhow, enough going on about it.. I just hope that it's better than the RX-8 in terms of reliability.
Back to MySQL I suppose.. jeezus I hate bloody MySQL (databases in general) - so boring...
HoHum,
Can't have a Starbucks today coz the shops' got a burst water pipe!!!!
Hmmm.. February, 2006 Changing my car... again!!Getting sick of driving the most uncomfy car in the known universe... the Mazda RX-8. It's also probably the most expensive petrol guzzler in the known universe. I travel about 15 miles a day back and forward to work and maybe 50-60 on the weekend. This is costing me over £300 A MONTH!!! And they say that the rotary engine is supposed to be efficient... well.. it is! It's efficient at EMPTYING MY BANK ACCOUNT!!
Hooo... that's better... rant finished..
Anyhow, picking up a brand new Mazda 6 MPS (2.3 petrol DISI Turbo) tomorrow.. even that does 30MPG (as opposed to that effing RX-8's 12-15MPG) - hopefully my bank manager will like me a bit more... and I'll get a bit more space to stretch my legs without sacrificing performance...
HoHum..
More next time...
Time for a Starbucks methinks.. |
